awards and media
The Piano Mill and cluster of surrounding buildings and bush structures, all have specific design intent. We have called the whole site “a poetic extension of the home as a series of music boxes”. The Piano Mill and companion events have been awarded and celebrated and are the source of journal and magazine articles. We are particularly proud of the Mill’s premier award in the 2018 World Architecture Festival for ‘Completed Building – Culture’, beating a crowded field of 14 global entries. The building’s shape and construction excited the judges, who felt it was perfect for its location, viewing it as a “prime instrument in an orchestra of trees.”
The Piano Mill heralds more than a tinkering around the edges of accessibility for experimental music or contemporary architecture. It is a finished instrument for the ongoing development and sharing of enduring creative work, a fitting recipient of an award for ‘Completed Building – Culture’
