I arrived with a change of boots and a bag of plaster., my preferred way of recording.
In spite of its cumbersome nature, the casting process gave me the focus to be very specific about where and how I would first focus.
It was the same approach that I used in Rome to avoid being paralysed by the complexity and sensuality of an ecology mixed from a combination of thousands of years and last week.
Between the timber mill and the sheds were the tracks of activity that I framed within a torn vase shape. The earth pigmented the plaster except where a worn and discarded tarpaulin masked the shape.
Also from Rome I had brought the coexistence of archaic and contemporary. What could be older than the mud and granite? So the surfaces became a picture which moved up the track from work site to leisure space. Next I walked and stalked fallen trees and ferns to make drawings in the impossibly complex forest.
